Energize and Preserve Your Legs
Have you ever heard of stasis dermatitis?
I hadn’t, until I started seeing it more and more and once you know what it is, you can’t really unsee it. Over time the veins in our lower legs can get a little weaker and have a harder time pushing blood back up. When that happens, fluid can hang out where it shouldn’t, and that’s when swelling and skin changes start to show up.
There are medical reasons this can happen, but honestly what stuck with me most was realizing how much of it ties back to everyday life; being on your feet all day, standing in one spot, long shifts, long years.
If you ever Google it, it makes sense why people wish they’d known sooner.
Getting the right fit makes all the difference. If you ever want help, Drug Mart can measure you (mornings are best, before swelling kicks in). And if you’re local, Amy at the Milan Ave location in Sandusky is genuinely lovely and really knows her stuff — you can call ahead if you want to make sure she’s there (419-625-0733, ext. 3).
And if leaving the house feels like too much, measuring at home first thing in the morning and ordering online works too. I just always say it’s nice to know what a good fit feels like at least once.
For me, compression has meant legs that feel lighter, less achy, and just… better by the end of the day.
This is one of those things I wish more people talked about, especially for kids heading into jobs where they’re on their feet all day, or parents and grandparents who come home with swollen ankles and don’t think much of it.
Sharing in case it helps someone else the way it helped me in a “wow, my legs feel better at the end of the day” way. And like everything else, we’ve got to take care of ourselves first.
